(H2SO4 + HNO3) easily oxidized aniline into tarry complex product due to high e- density on the benzene ring of aniline.
For direct nitration of aniline, nitration mixture is prepared which consists of H2SO4 and HNO3, both being acids. Aniline is a base. When they react acid base neutralization takes place and salt is formed.
