1. India has become largely dependent on fossil fuels like coal and petroleum that are non-renewable.
2. Rising prices of oil and their limited availability don't allow relying on it for meeting all our energy requirements.
3. If the conventional sources are not replaced, there would heavy consequences on the economy.
4. Consumption of fossil fuels causes environmental degradation like pollution.
5. India has an abundance of non-conventional sources of energy and the programmes for its development too.
