Distance is the path covered by the body.It is scalar quantity. It depends upon path of travelling.SI unit meter and cgs unit centimeter. Displacement is the distance from initial to final point.it is vector quantity. It depends upon position of the body. SI unit meter and cgs unit centimeter

Distance means total path and displacement means shortest path.

DISTANCE: Distance is the actual path travelled by a body in some direction . DISPLACEMENT: It is length travelled by a body from its mean position. That is the distance travelled from the starting position and the end position of distance travelled by the body.
