Carbon dioxide passed into limewater gives a milky solution and suspension of calcium carbonate formed:
Ca( OH)₂(aq) + CO₂(g) → CaCO₃(s) + H₂O(l).
that is why lime water turn milky when CO₂ gas is passed through it

Due to formation of calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate is milky in colour. Ca (OH) 2 + Co2 = CaCo3 +H2
