Non -cooperation was called off on seeing the condition of the country, the jallianwala bagh incident, and on the passing of rowlatt act.The place where the movement called off for the first time was in Chauri-Chaura.

InFeb.1922 Mahatma Gandhi decided to call off NCM after Chauri Chaura incident where a peaceful demomstration in a bazaar turned into a violent clash in which more than20 policemen were killed. He felt that satyagrahis needed to be properly trained before they would be ready for mass movement.
