InFeb.1922 Mahatma Gandhi decided to call off NCM after Chauri Chaura incident where a peaceful demomstration in a bazaar turned into a violent clash in which more than20 policemen were killed. He felt that satyagrahis needed to be properly trained before they would be ready for mass movement.
