* Members of the same caste followed the same or similar occupation.
* They married people within their same caste.
* Those who belonged to different caste groups never ate together.
* Those who belonged to different castes could not belong to the same community.
* Lower caste groups are often discriminated. They are referred to as dalits and untouchables , and they are prohibited from entering public places like temples.
