Mandela means when he says that he is sum of all those african patriots because there were so many people of South Africa who had sacrificied for the freedom and policy of apartheid and he take all the things and sacrification and apply it which all the forefather had done . For ex. Oliver tambo etc.

Many people sacrificed their lives for the freedom of South Africa from the policy of apartheid . Mandela considered himself the sum total of all those African Patriots because he is one of them. As the president of the nation he stands for the vision cherished by all the patriots gone before him.
