Here; 2^x+3^y=17 (i) 2^x+2-3^y+1=5 2^x-3^y+3=5 2^x-3^y=5-3 2^x-3^y=2 (ii) Adding (i) and (ii) to get : 2^x+3^y+2^x-3^y = 17+2 4^x=19 x=19/4 Putting x=19/4 in (i) : 2×19/4 +3^y=17 19/2+3^y=17 3^y=17-19/2 3^y=15/2 y=5/2
