The inauguration ceremony took place in the amphitheatre formed by the Union Buildings in Pretoria as for decades, it had been the seat of white supremacy. Here South Africa’s first democratic, non-racial government was to be formed. A large number of dignitaries from different parts of the world had gathered there to witness and join in the occasion which was to perish the practice of apartheid on the land of South Africa and equal rights, freedom, dignity and self-respect were to be given and enjoyed by its people.

Because it was the first democratic ,non racial government taking oath in south Africa . Dignitaries from more than 140 country across the world and thousands of people of all the races of south africa attended the ceremony to make the day memorable . Hence it took place in union building in Pretoria.
