B/c if it will be a close loop then net w.done will not be zero. while electrostatic force is conservative so net w.done must be zero

, simple ans that electric field have a only one direction n never change it's direction. We know that whenever it form closed loop then it show different directions every point which is not possible

Actually you will see it in next chapter that is electric field lines are there but net electric field is zero as they get cancelled out due to inducement of inner electric field lines.

due to repulsion

Yogita Ingle 6 years, 2 months ago

Electric field lines are the parth traced by unit positive charge when left free in electric field and tangent to field lines gives the direction of electric field. So if they will form close loops then the tangent at any point will direct in different directions which is not possible. Also, the unit positive charge moves only due to force of repulison and attraction and as a result traces only defintie path not circular path.

If they form closed loop that would mean that two point interest at each other, and it is one of the characteristics of filed lines that they do not cross each other
