in working there is a derivation whose final Equation is V(r)-V(R) =q/4πεο. (1/R-1/r). If we connect the smaller and the larger sphere with a conducting wire, the charge q, however small, on the smaller sphere gets transferred to the bigger sphere. Here, if we introduce a small charged sphere into a larger spherical shell, as shown in the system, the charge on the larger sphere keeps increasing. Similarly, the potential at the larger sphere would also keep rising as the charge increases, until the breakdown field of air is reached. The Van de Graaff generator works on the same principle.

Construction :---. It uses a moving belt that accumulates charge on a hollow metal structure designed like a globe, placed on the top of a column that is insulating in nature and thus, creating a very high electric potential in the order of a few million volts. This results in a very large electric field which is used to accelerate charged particles.

➡️The working principle of Van De Graff generator is based on : (i) the action of sharp points, i.e., the phenomenon of corona discharge. (ii) the property that charge given to a hollow conductor is transferred to outer surface and is distributed uniformly over it.
