1. The ethnic composition of Belgium is very complex.
2. It has two main languages: Dutch and French. Of the country’s total population, 59% lives in the Flemish region and speaks Dutch language.
3. Another 40% of people live in the Wallonia region and speak French. Remaining 1% speak German.
4. In the capital city Brussels, 80%of people speak French while 20% are Dutch-speaking. The minority French speaking community was relatively rich and powerful. This was resented by the Dutch-speaking community, who got economic and education benefit much later.
