The rational number (−23+14)÷ 2 lies in the middle of the two given rational numbers, that is, −23 and 14.
Now, (−23+14) = (−2)×4+3×112 = −8+312 = −512
∴ (−23+14) ÷ 2 = −512 ÷ 2 = −512 × 12 = −524
Thus, the required rational number is −524. That is, −23 < −524 < 14.
