Why does the connecting cord of an electric heater not glow while the heating element does?

The heating element of the heater is made up of alloy which has very high resistance compared to the cord of an electric heater.Since, the heat produced is directly proportional to the resistance,it becomes too hot and glows red due to heating effect of the current.But the resistance of the cord which is usually of copper or aluminium is very low so it does not glow.
