Given a quadratic equation :
x² + bx + c = 0
The discriminant is given by:
d = b² - 4ac
Where a , b and c are constants.
From the question we have :
(x + 5)² = 2(5x - 3)
x² + 10x + 25 = 10x - 6
Collecting the like terms together we have :
x² + 10x + 25 - 10x + 6 = 0
x² + 31 = 0
In our case :
b = o
c = 31
a = 1
Doing the substitution we have :
d = - 4 × 1 × 31 = -124
= -124
