Homogeneous - when the reactants and the products are in the same phase in a reaction is called homogenous catalysts. Heterogeneous- when the reactants and the products are not in the same phase in a reaction is called heterogenous catalysts.

It is important that you remember the difference between the two terms heterogeneous and homogeneous. Hetero implies different. Heterogeneous catalysis has the catalyst in a different phase from the reactants. ....... Homogeneous catalysis has the catalyst in the same phase as the reactants.
