Let third side = x cm
Then by Pythagoras theorem,
p2 = q2 + x2
x2 = p2 - q2
= (p + q) ( p - q)
= (p + q) {tex} \times{/tex} 1 ( {tex}\because {/tex} p - q = 1)
= q + 1 + q
= 2q + 1
{tex}\therefore {/tex} x ={tex}\sqrt {2q + 1} {/tex}
