    •  The Ottoman empire disintegrated and European subject nationalities split up demanding their independence.
    •  Rivalry was at the peak during this period and the nation states formed various groups and colonies. The best examples of this were during both the World Wars that took place in this century.
    • The concept of nation state was accepted readily in colonies and paved way for them to lead movements asking for independent nation states.
