The literacy rate in India grew from 18% in 1951, to 28% in 1961, 35% in 1971, 44% in 1981, 52% in 1991, 65% in 2001 and 74% in 2011. Kerala has achieved a literacy rate of 94% while Bihar is the least literate state in India, with a literacy of 64%. The literacy rate among males is 81% and women is 64%.
It will grow in 2020 as well.
