Scalar Chain: The line of authority from top management to the lowest ranks represents the scalar chain. Communications should follow this chain. However, if following the chain creates delays, cross-communications can be allowed if agreed upon by all parties and superiors are kept informed. Scalar chain clearly differentiates the authority and the job positions of the individuals in the organisation.

The Principle of “Unity of Command” is useful to the management because of the following reasons:

This Principle defines the authority-responsibility relationship between management and employees.
It helps in avoiding the dual subordination.
It ensures that orders and instructions issued to the workers are clear and precise.
It helps in preventing confusion and conflict regarding tasks to be done.
It helps in making a new employee aware of the job positions.
It brings more confidence among the employees to keep their interest ahead always.

The top officials of a country’s Government held a meeting in order to speed up the business growth. In the meeting it was decided that there was a need for granting several exemptions to the Business Units already established. Similiarly ,they felt that with a view to setting up new Business Units the young men needed to be encouraged. Also it was emphasized in the meeting that the entry of Multinational companies needed to be simplified. Besides, priority was given to relaxing restrictions imposed on Import Business.
