The potential at any point is the amount of workdone to be done to bring a test charge from infinity to that point against the electric field whereas the potential difference is simply the difference of potential at 2 different points. E.g. let a point be A where the potential is 10 and other point be B where the potential is 7, so the potential difference of the system is 10-7=3Volt.
