Timeline of forest Society and colonialism

a. In 1600- one-sixth of India​ land was under cultivation
b. Brandis set up the Indian Forest Service in 1864 and helped formulate the Indian Forest Act of 1865.
c. From 1880 cultivated area increased to meet the needs of the growing population and British industrial need
d. 1850's and 60' Expansion of railways.
e. By 1890's further expansion of railways leading to massive deforestation.
f. The 1878 Act divided forests into three categories: reserved, protected and village .
g. The Imperial Forest Research Institute was set up in Dehradun in 1906.Scientific forestry was taught there.
h. 1910 Bastar Rebellion
