Maximilien Robespierre was a French lawyer and politician who became one of the most influential leaders of the French Revolution.
Robespierre did not become the King of Franch after Louis XVI. In fact, he was rigidly opposed to the monarchy. Instead, after the execution of Louis XVI, Robespierre became the leader of the Committee of Public Safety which became the government of France during this period. This Committee was established by the National Convention. The Committee under Robespierre was responsible for the reign of terror under which people who were suspected to be against the Revolution were summarily executed.
