When calcium oxide(quicklime) is added to water, Calcium hydroxide(slaked lime) is formed Chemical equation for the same is-- CaO(s) + H2O(l) ------>Ca(OH)2 (aq) {combination reaction} Calcium hydroxide is used for white washing and reacts with carbon dioxide to form calcium carbonate and water.
