x² + 5x + 4 has zeroes α and β then, value of = {1/α + 1/β - 2 • αβ} Solution:- {x² +5x + 4} α+β = -b/a (sum of the zeroes) α+β = -5/1 [α+β = -5]............(i) α•β = c/a (product of the zeroes) αβ = 4/1 [αβ = 4]................(ii) Now taking , = 1/α + 1/β - 2 • αβ = β+α/αβ - 2 • αβ (taking LCM) = α+β/αβ - 2 • αβ = (-5)/(4) - 2 • (4) (from i and ii) = -5/4 - 8 = -5 -32 / 4 (taking LCM) = -37/4 = -9.25 [Ans] Hence , the required value is {-37/4 OR -9.25}
