Lyophilic sols: prepared by directly mixing the liquid dispersion medium, quite stable not easily coagulated, reversible, highly hydrated,organic,higher viscosity than medium, surface tension lower than medium Eg- starch gum,proteins Lyophobic sols: prepared by special methods only,easily precipitated by addition of small amount of electrolyte, irreversible, not much hydrated,inorganic (usually), nearly same viscosity and surface tension as that if medium
