A mixture which contains 50%of the d form and 50%of the l form is known as a racemic mixture. D form is known as the dextrorotatory form and L form is known as the levorotatory form. D form is when the plane polarised light passed through the nicol prism is rotated clockwise and for L form it is vice versa.
