Compare x² + 4x + k = 0 with ax² + bx + c = 0
a = 1 , b = 4, c = k
Since roots of the equation x² + 4x + k = 0 are real
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} b² - 4ac = (4)² - 4 (1) (k) = 16 - 4k {tex}\geq{/tex} 0
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} k {tex}\leq{/tex} 4
