When eclectric current pass through solution of sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide chlorine and hydrogen gas is prod8ced .{NaCl+H2O---electricity-----NaOH+Cl2+H2}. Due to formation of NaOH{alkali}and Cl2{chlorine } together the process is known as chlor-alkali process Note---here H2 can combine with Cl2 to form HCl
