The First World war was fought mainly in Europe but its effects were felt worldwide. [CAUSES:-(i)The assassination of Franz Ferdinand, Archduke(future King ) of Austro-hungarian empire,by Gabriel Princep,a serb nationalist in Serejevo. (ii)As a result,Belgrade, capital of Serbia, was devastated by Austrian artillery fire. Russian Empire joined the fray,preventing destruction of Serbia and expanding power of German Empire.]
