Let the time taken by B be x and time taken by A be x-6 Work done in one day by B=1/x Work done in one day by A=1/x-6 Work completed by A and B in 1/4 days= 1/x+1/x-6=1/4 x-6+x/x^2-6x=1/4 4(2x-6)=x^2-6x 8x-24=x^2-6x 0=x^2-6x-8x+24 0=x^2-14x+24 Middle term split 0=x^2-12x-2x+24 0=x(x-12)-2(x-12) 0=(x-2)(x-12) x-2=0 x=2 x-12=0 x=12 x=2,12 Take x as 2 so, Time taken by B is 2 days Time taken by A is 2-6=-4 Time can not be negative so x is 12 Time taken by B is 12 days Ans
