People from distant lands came to visit surat as:- :it waa known as gateway to weat asia as surat had markets in west Africa,europe and asia :it was also known as gateway to mecca as many ships set sail from here :it had wholesale shops and cotton textiles :it was famous for gold lace border called zari :it has rest houses for visitors :it has beautiful gatdens to attract people too.

Emporium-Surat in gujrat was emporium of western trade during mughal period. Gateway for trade- Surat was gateway for trade with west asia via the gulf of ormuz. Gate to mecca-Sirat was also called gate to mecca because many pilgrim ships set sail from surat. Famous for zari work-The textiles of surat were famous for their gold lace borders (zari) and had a market in West Asia,Africa and Europe.
