A nucleoside consists of a nitrogenous base covalently attached to a sugar (ribose or deoxyribose) but without the phosphate group. Several nucleoside analogues are used as antiviral or anticancer agents. Examples of nucleosides include cytidine, uridine, adenosine, guanosine, thymidine and inosine.
