    When d Q asks about MAXIMIUM den u have to find Hcf when its asks About MINIMUM den Lcm is required... For ex. an army contigent of 616 members is to march behind d army band of 32 members . the two groups are to march in same no. of columns . den wt is maximum no of column dey can march. Here d Q cleary tells us we have to find its HCF bec its asking d max people required.. Hope its Clear.....

    If the largest" or maximum" word is mention in question then you have to find HCF and LCM is oppsite to this word smallest or largest
