Preventive Detention : Its on the basis of suspicion i.e. as a precautionary measure. This kind of detention can be made by the authorities even on a slight apprehension that the person can commit a crime (Generally in cases of History-sheeter i.e. a person with a criminal record). It is generally made for protecting the society from any future happening that wouldn't be in favour of peace and harmony in the society. It is not a punishment but a precaution. This detention comes to an end the moment the apprehension of danger ends.
