Given that the sum of two numbers is 9 Let the two numbers be x and 9-x
By the given hypothesis, we have
1/x + 1/9-x = 1/2
(9 - x + x)/x(9-x) = 1/2
18 = 9x - x2
x 2 - 9x + 18 = 0
(x - 6)(x - 3) = 0
x = 6 or x = 3
Therefore the numbers are 3 and 6.
