Not Marble Nor the Gilded monument is a poem written by William Shakespeare. The poem talks about 'TIME' which is a mighty destroyer.He says that the monutes and gold plated statues ruin due to passage of time but his poetry is eternal and his beloved who is mentioned in the ballad lives in hearts of people forever.

Everything can be destroyed by the agents of nature but the litarary works cannot be destroyed by anyone hence they are eternal. Hope it helps...
