    Magnesium ribbon is cleaned before burning it in air in order to remove oxide layer, presence of which slowdowns the oxidation process. So, by cleaning it, the burning process takes place easily.

    Magnesium ribbon is cleaned before burning .....because it forms hard layer of magnesium oxide ....which is not easy to remove that's why it would be cleaned before burning... if we don't clean it then it will not burn with dazzling flame.....
