The evolution of the living organisms is called organic evolution. Evolution cannot be equated with progress. A species do not get eliminated to give rise to a new one. Also the newly generated species are in no way better than the old one. It is just that natural selection and genetic drift have led to the formation of a population that cannot reproduce with the original one. Evolution is simply the generation of diversity and shaping of diversity by environmental selection.
