It is a specially designed p-n junction diode which works in reverse breakdown regoin only. In zener diode doping is done heavily When current is supplied across a circuit consisting of a resistor and zener diode , increase in input current results in increase in voltage drop across resistor without any change in voltage across zener diode it is so because in reverse breakdown region zener voltage remains constant Further when input current decreases voltage across resistor decreases without any change in voltage across zener diode. Therefore it can be used as a voltage regulator?✌
