As the elected head of the country, the Prime Minister performs the following functions:

  1. He acts as a link between the people, the President and the Parliament.
  2. He formulates various policies of the government.
  3. He advises the President on the appointment of the ministers. He decides the portfolio of the ministers and can even ask for their resignations.
  4. The President makes major appointments on the advice of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet, .
  5. He and his Cabinet members coordinate and carry out the entire administration of the country.
  6. He is a vital link between the President and the Vice-President and coordinates the working of various departments.
