India can claim to be the largest democracy in the world, granting political freedom and equality to all.
People by virtue of fundamental rights participate in the governance of the country.
It has ensured power sharing to all the groups and has given adequate representation to diverse and weaker sections of society. One can give example of Reservation policy, language policy, principles of secularism.
Democratic form of Government is a legitimate government as it is based on people's consent.It allows for participation of the people in the political process, it is people's own government thus it is legitimate.
The country provides for smooth and legitimate transformation from one government to another by means of electoral competition. Elections are held after every five years allowing parties as the representative of people’s interest to compete for power and govern the country. India has a multi party system that has allowed various political parties to represent diverse interests and reach out to more and more people.
