The questions should be----why bond angle in PH3 is less than in NH3??

Shubhankar Kumar 6 years, 10 months ago

The bond pair in NH3 is close to N in N-H bond than the bond pair in P-H bond in PH3 . This is because the size of the nitrogen is small than phosphorus . As a result , the force of repulsion between the bonded pair of electrons in PH3 is more than in NH3 . Therefore the bond angle in PH3 molecule lesser than in NH3 .
