Mahatma Gandhi withdrew non-cooperation movement due to the following reasons :-

  1. Non-cooperation movement was meant to be a peaceful protest, but after the Chauri- Chaura incident, it was evident that the people turned to violence.
  2. Gandhiji felt that the people of India were not ready for a nation wide movement of mass struggle and felt that he should withdraw the movement.
  3. Moreover, many members of the Indian National Congress felt that the Non-cooperation movement was tiresome and unnecessary, since they wanted to contest in the elections.
