Earth is not completely spherical. It's little bit squeezed at the poles.
Since,  g=(GM/r²)..
So the acceleration due to gravity is inversely proportional to the radius.
As the radius is less at the poles compared to other part of earth. Hence the value of g is greatest at the poles.
