Second term (a2) = 8
fifth term (a5) = 17

we know that general formula of a term in ap is a+(n-1)d
therefore, a2=a+d 8=a+d
a5=a+4d 17=a+4d

solving the two equations simultaneously....
we get....d=3
{tex}\therefore{/tex} a=5 (a= First term)
