See firstly in sn1 mechanism a carbocation is formed whereas in sn2 nucleophile is directly added to the opposite side of the leaving group Secondly sn1 takes place in 2 steps while sn2 is a one step process Third sn1 is mostly followed and polar solvents(because they can stabilise carbocation by solvation) but sn2 is followed by non-polar solvents
