What are the reasons of one side deflection errors in potentiometer

Deflection can be of various reasons:

  1. A perfect constant voltage source is not available.
  2. Measurement instrument is not accurate or its glitchy.
  3. Potentiometer generally has a coil form (if they are large ones), it behaves as an inductor intially but after some time it will stabilize, if they have any AC component in the input (even slighly) they may give oscillations too.
  4. if the Potentiometer is of metal/carbon film or other form than coil then the material properties are changing while passing the current. Like resistance is varying while there is a slight temperature change.
