But she had no person to whom she could share all her secrets and her changes in her life. On her 13th birthday, she got a diary as a gift and she named it as Kitty. She used to write every secret on its pages as the secrets would not expose to others. In the Annexe, Anne used to write all her feelings that she couldn't share with other members of Annexe. She had got a best friend in her life as a diary "Kitty".</font></font></div> </div>

Anne's diary can be treated as a character because its role is as important as the heroine herself. The diary is thus a medium through which we see Anne, other characters and the world.Anne records her actions and reactions which reveal her view on various things. In fact, he diary entry are a mirror of Anne's growth through adolescence to maturity. She openly shares her fear, anger, sadness, and hope through her diary with the world. Her treaing her diary as her close friend named 'Kitty' signifies its importance. In it Anne redirects her strong feeling instead of expressing them outright and damage the fragile relationship in the Annexe residents with her own concerns.Diary writing enables Anne to discover her inner voice and her voice as a writer.Anne, thus, uses her diary like a significant medium.
