Acetophenone and Benzophenone can be distinguish by using iodoform test. However, Benzonphenone does not contain any free methyl group so it will give a negative test. 1) C₆H₅COCH₃ + 3NaOl → C₆H₅COONa+ CH₃ +2NaOH Acetophenone + Sodium Hypoiodite → Sodium Benzate + Iodoform (yellow ppt) 2) C₆H₅COC₆H₅ + NaOl → No yellow ppt of CH₃ Benzophenol + Sodium Hypoiodite → No yellow ppt of CH₃
